I grew up with the river literally in my backyard in a fishing town in Illinois. I spent a lot of time with my dad pole fishing from a boat, and driving the boat while he dropped and pulled up trot lines and trammel nets. Grandpa was fairly well known because he knit and tarred trammel nets and sold them to local commercial fishermen.
